VIDEO: Food or fireworks? How this NJ debate kept us divided even after the holiday

Hey there my friend, hope you had an amazing Fourth of July holiday. Especially with this year celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday, and with the holiday falling as a big three day weekend.

Even on Sunday the food and fireworks kept going all over New Jersey as we continued to celebrate our freedom all summer long.

But that also got me thinking. What to we find more important when it comes to those summer celebrations. Is it the food? Or is it the fireworks?

Curious, we asked beachgoers on the Asbury Park boardwalk on Friday, July 3 as we started the long holiday weekend. And then I asked again on Sunday morning, July 5, to our listeners.

The responses I got was quite surprising. I thought we would overwhelmingly go one direction. Instead, here's what you said.

Food vs Fireworks

I personally thought food would take the clear lead over fireworks. As it turns out, that wasn't the case.

During my Sunday morning show, we were pretty split on it. Almost down the middle with the same number saying food as they did fireworks.

But it wasn't just during our show where that happened. Earlier on at the Asbury Park boardwalk, the same thing happened. It was an even 50/50 split, which again surprised me.

But in Asbury, we also asked beachgoers why. And some of them gave interesting answers.

Which matters more?

I mean, I know we're divided when it comes to Pork Roll and Taylor Ham, or if Central Jersey really exists. But food and fireworks? You never cease to surprise, Jersey.
