Smith had hit a BMW 428i sedan that was parked on the side of the road following a crash with a BMW X3 around 2:15 a.m. in the southbound inner lanes south of Exit 8 (Route 33) in Robbinsville, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said.

The driver of the Hyundai was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

It is the second fatality on the Turnpike in Mercer County in 2024 and the seventh on the entire roadway, according to State Police records.
